Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® uses a network of vehicle sensors to recognize certain critical driving situations and signs of a potential collision. When the system determines that an impact may be imminent, it can activate several precautionary measures designed to help prepare the cabin and its occupants.

When PRE-SAFE® detects certain conditions indicating that a collision may be imminent, it can automatically activate several precautionary measures. Depending on the vehicle and equipment, these may include:
- Seat belt tensioning — the front seat belts can tighten to help position occupants more securely.
- Head restraint adjustment — compatible head restraints can adjust in preparation for a potential impact.
- Window adjustment — open windows can close to help prepare the cabin for a collision.

PRE-SAFE® Sound can emit a brief pink-noise signal through the audio system when a collision is anticipated, triggering a natural inner-ear reflex designed to help protect hearing from the pressure of impact. Available PRE-SAFE® PLUS can provide additional preparation for certain rear-end collision situations, while PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side is designed to help prepare occupants for certain side impacts.
