Most drivers know that they need to maintain their vehicles in order to get the best performance. It’s also common knowledge that to keep a car in good shape, it has to get regular oil changes.

Oil plays a hugely important role in a vehicle, as it keeps the moving parts in the engine lubricated. But over time, it gets old and doesn’t do its job very well. Every 3,000 miles used to be the norm when it came to oil changes, but that’s not always the case anymore. With some high-performance oils, that number may be closer to 6,000 miles. However, if you do a lot of driving in dirty or dusty conditions, you probably need to get your oil changed more often.

Level and Color 

It’s important to check your oil regularly, as this lets you see if you have enough in the tank. At the same time, you can look at its color. If it’s a light brown, you have no need to worry. If it’s a dark brown or black, it’s time for to change it out.  

Weird Noises 

If you hear a knocking sound from the engine, this could mean that your oil level is too low. It may also be a sign that you’re using the wrong oil viscosity. 

Dashboard Warning Lights 

If a symbol that looks like an old oil can lights up on your dashboard, this is the oil pressure warning light. This could be another indication that your oil is low. The check engine light may also be a sign that you need an oil change.
